Art History | Queer History | Museum Studies
I’m an educator and a researcher. I study and write about art, queer history, museums, and women art collectors.
At Boston University, I am a PhD Candidate in the History of Art and Architecture. My dissertation, “Taking Care: The Queer Making of American Modernism, 1914-1935,” examines what I call a “queer arts advocacy,” evident in the early twentieth century through four case studies of women art collectors. Through small galleries, community-oriented salons, and efforts to connect to the public, advocates and organizers advanced the cause of modern art outside of traditional institutions.
I have also worked in libraries, museums, and public history sites, including the Worcester Art Museum, Musée national d’histoire et d’art in Luxembourg, Andover Center for History and Culture, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Clark University’s Archives and Special Collections, the Cambridge Public Library, and the Nichols House Museum. In Spring 2025, I was privileged to be a Research Associate at the Five College Women’s Studies Research Center. My writing has been published in SEQUITUR and InVisible Culture.
Because I am committed to bring queer history and access to art outside of the ivory tower, I work with local queer activist and history groups, share my writing publicly when possible, and organize to protect local arts organizations.
My research demonstrates that systemic and structural changes to our cultural institutions is not only possible, but vital to the creation of new art.
